Mark Bush (Ph.D. University Hull, UK, 1986) is Professor and Chair of the Marine Conservation Program at the Florida Institute of Technology. He has more than 30 years experience of working on the biogeography and paleoecology of tropical systems. His research focuses on the effects of past adn present climate change on human and natural systems ranging from the Amazon Basin to the Galapagos Islands. By analyzing sediments from ancient lakes his team gains insights into the history of landscapes and reconstructs past ecosystems using fossil pollen, diatom, and charcoal analysis. From these understandings we contribute to developing conservation strategies and in educating local communities about their history. His research group is keen to offer meaningful research opportunities to undergraduates. He has published >150 papers on tropical ecology and climate change, and 2 books.
